In celebration of our country's 150th birthday, we decided to release a limited collector can for the inner patriot in all of us.

True North Canadian Pale Ale is brewed with all-Canadian ingredients from across the country. We've included oats [BC], rye [SK], wheat [AB], malted barley [ON], pine tips [ON] and will be aging the batch on oyster shells [PEI]. The result is a beautifully aromatic, dangerously sessionable pale ale... made a little stronger because that's how we like our beer in Canada.

Around the can you'll find a heavy presence of true Canadiana, including the flag, the leaves, bilingual ingredients listing and even the lyrics to our national anthem.

This specialty release hits the bottle shop today, just in time for the long weekend. If you're interested in raising a glass of True North this weekend, stop into the brewery and pick up a few before it's out of stock. The restaurant and bottle shop are all weekend, even Monday.

Available only for a VERY limited time.

Say Goodbye to The Beer Store. Say Hello to The Ontario Craft Beer Store.

Barnstormer Brewing & Distilling Co. Unveil The Ontario Craft Beer Store, a New Chain of Privately-Owned Retail Stores to Sell Exclusively Ontario Craft Beer

    March 31, 2017

(BARRIE, ON) Barnstormer Brewing & Distilling Co. unveiled a major development project with the announcement of The Ontario Craft Beer Store, a new chain of privately-owned retail stores licensed to sell beer in the same way as The Beer Store and LCBO.

Barnstormer said the project has been in the works for more than five years, and added the retail chain has been funded entirely by Canadian private investment. The agreement made will have The Craft Beer Store share the framework in use by Brewers Retail Inc./ The Beer Store.

The Key Principles are intended to enhance customer convenience, choice and shopping experience, while continuing to ensure that consumers in Ontario can purchase Beer at prices below the Canadian average, and to enhance the Beer retailing system for all Brewers selling Beer in Ontario.” (Master Framework Agreement, Recitals, E., 2015)

With regards to the difference between this outlet and the existing models, Spokesperson and Creative Director, Brad Ariss, stated, “The Craft Beer Store will operate under a similar framework but will actually adhere to these key principles. Our shelves will offer exclusively Ontario Craft Beer, which we define as any brick and mortar OCB brewery producing under 100k HL. Contract brewers will not be included… and please don’t come in looking for a Canadian.”

This news comes just weeks after an announcement by Barnstormer that their brewing operation is already underway with an expansion of production into Midland, ON with the construction of a major production facility, retail store and 250-seat waterview restaurant.

Founder and President of The Craft Beer Store, Dustin Norlund, remarked, “This incredible news is the result of a tireless negotiation with government among all other industry leaders over several years… At the end of the day, the shift in consumer behaviour toward locally-produced craft beer simply demands an alternative model for alcohol distribution in Ontario. The move will provide our fellow Ontario Craft Brewers”

The first of The Ontario Craft Beer Stores are expected to open Fall 2017, beginning first in larger metropolitan areas and moving outward into more rural areas Spring 2018.  The Ontario Craft Beer Store will stock over 100 local brands. More information can be found at

Something Big is Brewing in Midland...

    Barnstormer Brewing & Distilling Co.

Announces Second Waterfront Location and Major Expansion Plans

    February 27, 2017

(BARRIE, ON)  Barnstormer Brewing & Distilling Co. (“Barnstormer”) is happy to announce plans to construct a waterfront brewery restaurant and major production brewing facility in the downtown core of Midland, Ontario. The facility will rest conveniently along the Trans-Canada Trail and feature a restaurant inside the brewery overlooking the shores of Georgian Bay. The menu will be similar in style to its original location in Barrie, Ontario offering spent-grain pizzas and gastropub fare along with craft beer and spirits.

We are thrilled that Barnstormer Brewing & Distilling Co. has chosen Midland to launch their expansion of the microbrewery.” said Midland Mayor, Gord McKay.

The planned facility will support Barnstormer’s growth strategy to become one of the largest craft breweries in Ontario. This second location will focus on production brewing and packaging for all its core beers which include Flight Delay IPA, 400 Blonde Ale, YYZ First Class Lager, Billy Bishop Brown and Windshear Watermelon Summer Ale. These brands can already be found at The Beer Store and select LCBO locations, seasonally or year-round.

    About the Expansion

The proposed waterfront development will house a modern brewing and distilling operation, craft beer and spirits retail store, and an approximate 250-seat restaurant with outdoor patio. The facility will be located at 526 Bay Street in the heart of downtown Midland on the shores of Georgian Bay. The expansion will allow Barnstormer the additional production capacity to meet growing demands, as well as, further its reach across Ontario with plans on expanding outside the province. The project is expected to add an anchor tourism destination to the Midland waterfront community and create approximately 50 diverse job opportunities to residents in the region. The facility will also provide the community a joint-use office and meeting space for large corporate functions and events. This co-working environment will give freelancers, startups and small businesses the opportunity to work, collaborate, and grow in a supportive and authentic community atmosphere.

Founder and President, Dustin Norlund, remarked, “We are excited to establish our flagship location in Midland. With the production brewery and restaurant so close to the beautiful waterfront setting, we hope to attract additional tourism to Midland and surrounding area and become a staple community attraction and destination. The outpouring of support from local residents and council has been overwhelming so far and we can’t wait to get started.”
